What Past Wwoofers have said about Wwoofing at AsleepingDragon...

From Lilian - Germany

I have been staying at the Sleeping Dragon for 2 weeks and I really enjoyed it. They are so welcoming and generous. Donna knows so much about Maori history. Also I learned how to build a composting place and how to preserve gherkin. I spend some rainy days in the studio and created a mosaic. My room was so nice and cosy. The garden is really nice and there is plenty space to play with the dogs or enjoy the amazing view. Thank you Donna and David

"Here be Dragons!"

I highly recommend A Sleeping Dragon to anyone who is interested in learning about Maori history and culture. Donna is a fountain of knowledge and she's very willing to share what she knows. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long, but I enjoyed my short stay. There are always projects going on and the surrounding area is spectacular, not too far from the beach and there are some great walks to be taken.

"Wake the dragon in you! ;) "

Disclaimer: This wwoofing-opportunity may set the bar too high for future hosts to reach. You have been warned. If you are a HONEST person who doesn't shy away from manual labour, who is thoughtful about their own actions and respectful of the beautiful home the Gardner's are willing to share with strangers like yourself, this is for you. I enjoyed everything about my stay at TheSleepingDragon. After some hours of gardening or other WORK in the morning, you can enjoy the beautiful view over hillsides and the ocean, go down to the beach, read in one of the MANY books, play an instrument or enjoy doing some art or crafts in the studio. Take some time to give the furry members of the house some exercise! They are lovely. In the evening you can get creative or just be a HELPFUL hand in the AWESOME kitchen with Donna, who will show you how to do a great roast and other kiwi food. I loved cooking with and especially for you guys! After dinner I enjoyed sharing laughs and many stories, fun anecdotes and deep conversation with both of them. As long as you give your best you will have the time of your life. What you give is what you get! Don't miss out on a chance to meet the nicest kiwi-people in their natural habitat ;) I must thank you again for 5 awesome weeks in your lovely home! Miss you guys heaps and hope to meet again! Cheers!!

"peaceful place and wonderful Wwoof host !!"

hi David and Donna! Thx so much for my time spent at your home! Very wonderful and peaceful place! Donna and David are very warm and welcoming people! They've got a lot of stories and discussion to share with you and they make everything is possible to make feel you confortable with them, as speaking slowly when your english is not the best ;) Add to this, the sea is just under the house at.. 45min by foot :) Just too good to enjoy your free time and have a little walk ! There are many things to do and learn at this place, the workshop, music, the accomodation, the garden, the food and especially the people and the pets are just too wonderful! thank you so much again for everything! We ll stay in touch!

"Amazing and crazy :-)"

I stayed with David and Donna for 6 weeks, and I enjoyed it a lot. They are fabulous hosts and really care about you. The accomodation is amazing, as is the food. Probably not the place to learn about farming, but definitely the place to experience New Zealand and enjoy some time off and some great discussions. Donna always has a story to tell, and she knows a lot about Maori culture and the history of the place. Thank you for everything, highly recommanded to anyone ready to work and experience real Kiwi lifestyle !

"just a great wwoofing experience"

Thank you very much for all the time we could spend in the Sleeping Dragon. We realy enjoyed it! It was the first wwoofing experience of ours, we spent here 5 weeks and we can Donna and David, these very nice people, just recommend to everyone who´d like to fit in the peaceful atmosphere of their beautiful house with an amazing view to the sea. Our duty was helping in the garden and the paddack, cleaning and cooking. Moreover, we could do a mosaic and we could spend some wonderful whiles just with Donna and her hobbys. We deeply appriciate it. Thank you.

From Marius - Germany

I totally agree with my forerunners comments! David and Donna are very nice hosts always making an effort in having interesting conversations. The huge humber of wwoofers who stayed at Sleeping Dragon speaks for it self. I was number 69. but I did not feel as being only a number: David and Donna took care of me and were always attempted making me feel comfortable. I got the chance to visit lots of nice spots around Waihi Beach such as Tauranga or Waihi. Accomodation is your own big room so privacy for long-term-wwoofers is ensured, meals are varied and really delicious. 3 hours work a day + 1 hour work tonight helping with cooking or cleaning the kitchen. If you are lucky to arrange a stay at David and Donnas use it to get relaxed after being exhausted from long travels.
