Wire Bead Trees...
Continuing the Passion of Wire Trees made here at Asleeping Dragon by Donna Gardner...
These are just of the tools I use or have recycled to be able to make the Wire Trees more interesting...
Ceramic Tile...
Had this brilliant Ceramic
Tile that was just perfect
for the length to wrap
the wire around. Here I've
wrapped No18 and No22
guage wire around the
tile, ready to be
cut at the top and
bottom, for the lengths
that then need strightening...
Straightening the Wire...
In the beginning, I used
wire pliers to straighten the wire.
This would take ages!
After some youtube searches,
I found a video that suggested
placing one end of the wire
into a bench clamp and using
Bullnose wire pliers, pull the wire
till it straightens. Easy with
the No22 Gauge wire, harder
with the No18 guage...
Recycling Tools....
Twisting double lines
of wire got tiresome
on my hands and wrists,
surely there would be
a tool to make this
easier... Nothing available
here in New Zealand, I
then decided to make something...
I found this wonderful old
Bench Grinder, after some
discussion with the 2nd hand
seller that I found it at, we
found a nut that would
also fit the front and Voila!
Wire twister - so much
easier especially when threading
seed beads onto the wire...
Hand Drills...
I also had the idea
of using a hand drill
to hold my crochet hook
that I use to use to
do my double wire
twisting.. so putting the
hand drill into the
bench vice, then tightening
the chuck around the crochet
hook and simply turning the
handle, volia.. twisted wire...
Then I discovered if you
put the single wire into
the chuck, then hold the
other end with the bullnose
wire pliers, hold some
tension on the wire then
turn the handle the wire
twists straight!
I kid you not!
